I want to make a change, so with all my other questions, i want sceintific studies backing it up……..no guessing, please helkp me out…..
so, just foods that lower cholesterol……..
Foods to lower cholesterol:
1. Whole grains and oats: An Insulin Resistance Athersclerosis Study showed that people whose diets contain the most whole grains “had the thinnest carotid artery walls and showed the slowest progression in artery wall thickness.”
2. Blueberries: Blueberries help to lower cholesterol with minimal side effects.
3. Pistachios, Walnuts and Almonds: Penn State study indicates that pistachios significantly lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. Journal of the American College of Cardiology showed eating walnuts after a high-fat meal might protect your heart. Omega-3 fats and antioxidants in nuts work to reverse the arterial damage
4. Flaxseed oil – flaxseed oil can lower blood pressure in men with high cholesterol.
5. Fish and Fish oil – a study from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology found that fish oil lowers the size and concentration of several lipoprotein subclasses (cholesterol).
6. Pomegranate juice – a National Academy of Sciences study showed that pomegranate juice reduces cholesterol plaque.

I take medication for high cholesterol (Pravastatin sodium) Is it safe to use milk thistle while taking cholesterol meds since they both go through the liver?
Thanks…
Milk thistle can decrease the rate at which statins (and various other drugs) are broken down by the liver, which in theory, could lead to raised levels of the drug in your body which can be harmful. Milk thistle is also of little therapeutic value anyway, might as well avoid it.
Just because something is natural, does not necessarily mean it is safe. Herbal remedies contain active ingredients therefore have the ability to interact with other drugs.
EDIT
Paddy aka SkepCrock: you should really avoid giving medical advise on subjects you know nothing about.
So your answer to the question is to advise the poster to avoid prescription drugs such as Prava which could reduce the risk of heart disease in favour of something of little therapeutic value anyway? Illogical advise.

i’ve asked a similar question like this before but im really interested to know why this is happening….
the bluish tinge you are seeing can be due to having slow kidney function, try drinking lots of water and having a balanced diet as well as having plenty of sleep.

can anyone help meee …. plZzzzzzzz quick thanks
he distribution of cholesterol levels in teenage boys is approximately normal with and (Source: U.S. National Center for Health Statistics). Levels above 200 warrant attention. Find the probability that a teenage boy has a cholesterol level greater than 225.
You have to find the upper percent (right-side of one-tailed) cut off by z corresponding to 225.
x = 225
z = (x – μ) / σ
If 15.6% of people have cholesterol level 200 mg/dL and over, p = 0.156
If we take a sample of n=1000 teenagers, the mean and standard deviation will be:
μ = n*p
μ = 1000*0.156 = 156
σ = √(n*p*(1-p))
σ = √(1000*0.156*0.844)=31.6
z = (225 – 156) / 31.6 = 2.1835
The upper area (http://www.measuringusability.com/pcalcz.php) is 1.45% or the probability will be 0.0145.

I’m asking this because my father recently got bad his blood test results and both his cholesterol and blood pressure came out to be very low. But he eats so much steak (he loves red meat), eggs, and other cholesterol-rich foods so it doesn’t make any sense. Any ideas of what could have caused it? And how dangerous is it? Thanks.
His total cholesterol is 105 (normal is 125-200) and his HDL is 25 (normal is greater or equal to 40).
cholesterol levels are partly related to diet and partly related to how much cholesterol your body manufactures. It’s genetics that determine how the body regulates cholesterol levels. Your father is very lucky to have genes that keep his cholesterol low. There is nothing wrong with your father unless his blood pressure is low enough to cause symptoms such as dizziness or fatigue. It sounds like he has excellent cardiovascular health.
